The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently procured 70 hybrid Jet Mover buses from a local automobile manufacturer, Jet Motor Company, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the country’s public transportation system.
These buses, which can run on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and premium motor spirit (PMS), are expected to offer Nigerians a more affordable and comfortable travel experience.
The delivery of the vehicles was confirmed during a handover event held at Jet Motor Company’s facility in Ajah, Lagos State. The ceremony saw the presence of key officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives of the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas.
Dimas Hamidu, the Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the vehicles, commending Jet Motor Company for their work.
Hamidu emphasized that the introduction of these hybrid buses demonstrates the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to mitigating the challenges posed by the recent removal of fuel subsidies. According to Hamidu, these buses will not only address transportation needs but also help ease the economic pressures faced by Nigerians.
Hamidu further explained the Federal Government’s efforts, mentioning that contracts for CNG vehicles had been awarded to various companies, each tasked with delivering a specific number of units.
“I am happy with what I have seen here. This will go a long way in alleviating the pain and suffering of the people with the removal of fuel subsidy,” Hamidu noted.
He also highlighted that the Ministry of Finance conducted a tour of the factories to assess the production progress and was impressed by Jet Motor’s adherence to the contractual terms.
Jet Motor Company’s Managing Director, Derek Ewelukwa, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s transportation system.
He provided insights into the technical aspects of the hybrid buses, explaining that each vehicle is equipped with two CNG tanks capable of holding a total of 220 liters of gas, allowing the buses to travel up to 300 kilometers.
Additionally, the buses have an 80-liter petrol tank and an engine that can seamlessly switch between gas and petrol.
