“Since I have known Tinubu, he has been using only one wristwatch” – VP Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has publicly expressed his admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s simplicity and humility, stating that the Nigerian leader is not motivated by personal wealth.

Shettima highlighted Tinubu’s modest lifestyle during a speech at a book launch in Abuja, attended by prominent figures such as the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande.

In his remarks, Shettima described Tinubu as a leader who is driven by a genuine desire to serve the nation rather than accumulate wealth.

“Since I have known him, he has been using only one wristwatch,” Shettima revealed, emphasizing Tinubu’s indifference to luxury and materialism.

Shettima recounted his initial surprise when he first visited Tinubu’s residence in Bourdillon. He admitted to expecting an opulent mansion but was instead met with a simple home, far from what he imagined. He added that his own house in Maiduguri was more impressive in comparison.

Reflecting on Tinubu’s personal habits, Shettima shared how Tinubu opted for a simple meal of garri with groundnut during a political meeting at his home. He used this to further illustrate Tinubu’s down-to-earth nature, saying, “He doesn’t even care about how he dresses.”

Shettima continued to endorse Tinubu as a leader with a strong sense of purpose, aiming to make lasting contributions to Nigeria. “He is in power to leave landmarks in the sands of time,” he said, urging the public to support the President as he takes bold steps to address the country’s challenges, particularly the economic difficulties they inherited.

“And at the formative stage of the APC, we held a meeting in his house. They served us a variety of meals but he opted to take garri with groundnut for lunch.

“Since I have known him, he has been using only one wristwatch, and in fact, I dress better than him. He doesn’t even care. He has overcome all those odds to dress well. So we need to rally around this poor man. He has taken some bold steps. The economy that we met was in a huge mess.”
