Alhaji Isa Bawa, the District Head of Gatawa in Sokoto State, has been brutally murdered by terrorists after being forced to plead for ransom from the public. The terrorists, who captured and tortured Bawa, have now demanded N60 million and five motorcycles for the release of his body for a proper burial.
The abduction took place in July when Alhaji Bawa and his son were traveling from Sokoto to their hometown of Sabon Birni. The terrorists initially set a ransom of N1 billion for their release.
During their captivity, a distressing video surfaced online showing the late traditional leader pleading for his life and calling for government intervention. In the video, Bawa is seen begging for help while a gunman instructs him on what to say, reflecting the severe pressure and coercion they faced.
Despite his desperate pleas, Bawa was killed by the terrorists on Wednesday. The terrorists continue to hold his body, insisting on the payment of N60 million and five motorcycles before they will release it. This has placed the family in a dire situation, as they now face the heartbreaking possibility of being unable to give Bawa a proper Islamic burial.
A family member disclosed the ransom demands, stating, “They said before they can release his corpse, we must give them N60 million and five motorcycles.”
