On Friday morning, several road accidents across Lagos State left a total of 11 people injured, creating significant traffic disruptions in different parts of the city. The most notable incidents involved a fully loaded Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus that overturned on its side and a truck that blocked an entire road, causing heavy delays.
The first accident occurred around 7:45 am on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, near the Iyana-Ipaja area. According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), a high-capacity BRT bus, filled with passengers, lost control and fell onto its side while traveling within its dedicated lane.
Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene, where they provided medical care to the injured.
“A fully loaded high-capacity bus fell on its side inside the dedicated lane (BRT lane) with a record of 10 casualties (Victims), which they were taken care of,” LASTMA reported.
While the exact cause of the BRT accident remains unclear, authorities are urging motorists to drive carefully, especially as investigations continue.
In another major incident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway near Durbar Junction, a truck loaded with goods fell and completely blocked the road inward to Alakija. This caused significant traffic delays as vehicles had to be diverted through a service lane. LASTMA is currently working to clear the truck and restore normal traffic flow.
Meanwhile, another road crash occurred opposite Northwest, heading inward to Ajah. LASTMA reported that the accident, caused by speeding, involved two vehicles and left one person injured.
