Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially introduced the new N70,000 minimum wage for state employees, following the recent approval from the Federal Government. This new wage rate was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu after extensive negotiations with labor unions.
Despite the Federal Government’s approval, many governors across the country have expressed concerns about their ability to meet the new wage demands due to economic constraints. Nevertheless, Governor Fintiri has taken a different approach.
Starting from August 2024, state workers in Adamawa will begin receiving the higher wage. Local government workers are expected to see the increase in their salaries starting in September.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from the state’s civil servants. Workers who have already received their updated salaries have confirmed the successful implementation to various news sources, including Daily Trust.
Many of these workers have praised Governor Fintiri for his commitment to honoring his promises, describing him as a “man of his word.”
This move has been seen as a major accomplishment for Governor Fintiri’s administration, which has been referred to as the “Fresh Air Government” by its supporters. The governor’s decision to adhere to the new wage law reflects a significant step towards improving the welfare of state employees in Adamawa.
