Manchester United is reportedly targeting Chelsea’s star winger, Raheem Sterling, in a high-profile transfer move. According to recent reports, United’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, has already initiated contact with Chelsea to discuss a potential swap deal involving Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho and Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling.
Sterling, a 29-year-old England international, has been told by Chelsea to explore other options, as the club looks to streamline its squad. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has publicly stated that Sterling is no longer a key part of his plans, confirming that Sterling has been asked to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Despite Sterling’s successful career with Liverpool, Manchester City, and now Chelsea, he finds himself on the outskirts of Chelsea’s lineup. It is rumored that Manchester United sees him as a key addition to their attacking options. The Telegraph reports that United has approached Chelsea with a proposed deal that would see Jadon Sancho head to Stamford Bridge in exchange for Sterling.
Sancho, who has struggled to find consistent form at Manchester United, has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain. Though PSG has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Sancho, no formal offer has yet been made.
A major obstacle in the proposed swap between Sterling and Sancho is Sterling’s salary, reportedly at £300,000 per week. If a deal were to go through, Sterling would likely need to agree to a pay cut to fit within United’s wage structure.
