Christiana Idowu, a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has been killed by her abductors following failed ransom negotiation.
Christiana was abducted while traveling between Ikorodu and Yaba, where she was undertaking her industrial training at the University of Lagos.
The Student Union Government president of FUNAAB, Ibrahim Adeyemi, confirmed the heartbreaking news during a phone conversation. He stated, “The Union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. We will be addressing the matter soon.”
Reports revealed that Christiana’s kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N3 million for her release. According to a family source, the abductors contacted the family using Christiana’s phone after she became unreachable.
Following negotiations, the ransom was reduced to N350,000, which the family paid. However, despite making the payment, the kidnappers did not release Christiana.
The case gained further attention when a social media post on X by user @letter_to_jack described how intelligence operatives tracked the abductor using the BVN and bank account details linked to the ransom transaction.
The investigation revealed that the account used was linked to a masked betting account and another account at Wema Bank. Despite efforts by intelligence officers to trace the suspect to Ikorodu, Lagos, it was too late for Christiana.
Further inquiries into the suspect’s activities showed a connection between him and Christiana, as they were seen interacting on Instagram. The operatives tracked the suspect’s phone activities, leading them to his parents’ residence in Ikorodu.
