Kano Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that the death toll from the recent building collapse at Noman’s Land Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area, Kano, has risen to three, with two other individuals sustaining injuries.

This tragic incident occurred when a two-storey building suddenly collapsed around 2 a.m.

Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi, the Coordinator of NEMA’s Kano Territorial Office, provided an update on the situation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). According to Abdullahi, four people, including a husband, wife, and their two children, were initially rescued from the rubble by the emergency response team.

Sadly, the two children were confirmed dead, while the parents were immediately transported to the Armed Forces Specialist Hospital, Kano, for medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary.

The search and rescue teams, including NEMA, Kano State Fire Service, the Police, Red Cross, NSCDC, SEMA, and other volunteers, continue to work tirelessly at the scene. They have so far recovered one more body from the debris of the collapsed building.

Abdullahi stated, “Our search and rescue operation is still ongoing to rescue one remaining trapped victim. We are still looking for her, maybe she fell inside water because there is water close to the collapsed building.”

He further explained that the Kano State fire service has been instructed to search underwater, and the Emir of Water (Sarkin Ruwa) has been informed to assist in the search, as there is concern that the water might have carried the missing victim away.
