The Department of State Services (DSS) has returned the passport of Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), after it was seized earlier this week.
Ajaero’s passport was released on Tuesday through the efforts of Abubakar Marshall, a lawyer from Falana Chambers, a law firm led by renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana.
Ajaero’s troubles with the DSS began when he was detained and released on Monday night. Following his release, the DSS took possession of his passport, which led to concerns about his freedom of movement.
The reasons for the initial seizure of Ajaero’s passport have not been fully disclosed, but the swift return suggests that legal interventions played a crucial role.
Femi Falana, who serves as counsel to the NLC, confirmed the development in a brief statement to reporters. He said, “Ajaero’s passport was released today through my colleague, Abubakar Marshall. It has been handed over to him.”
