The Lagos State government, through its Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), has taken action against Donald’s Fast Food, a popular restaurant owned by Nigerian businessman and socialite, Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chiefpriest. The fast-food outlet was sealed for its failure to comply with environmental regulations, particularly related to noise pollution, despite repeated warnings.
The restaurant, located on Adebayo Doherty Street in the high-end Lekki Phase 1 area, had been previously warned by the authorities. LASEPA issued several abatement notices to the establishment, urging them to reduce noise levels and address other environmental concerns, but these warnings went unheeded. Consequently, the agency was left with no choice but to close down the business to protect the community from further disturbances.
The closure was announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab. He took to his social media platform on Sunday to inform the public about the enforcement action, writing: “After several warnings and abatement notices, LASEPA sealed Donald’s Fast Food on Adebayo Doherty Street, Lekki 1 over noise pollution and other environmental infractions.”
This development has stirred conversation in Lagos, as many people are familiar with Cubana Chiefpriest’s lavish lifestyle and influential presence in the entertainment industry. However, the environmental violations point to a growing concern in Lagos, where businesses are being held accountable for activities that negatively impact residents’ quality of life.
Noise pollution, in particular, has been a major issue in bustling parts of Lagos, with residents often complaining about loud music, industrial noise, and other disturbances from commercial activities. The government has been cracking down on businesses that disregard environmental laws, aiming to create a more peaceful and livable environment for all.
This is not the first time a popular establishment has been shut down for similar reasons, and the Lagos State government has emphasized its commitment to enforcing the rules without favoritism, regardless of the owner’s status. For Cubana Chiefpriest, this could serve as a wake-up call, highlighting the importance of adhering to regulations, no matter how successful or influential one might be.
