A viral video of a woman, believed to be a member of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministry in Lagos, has sparked widespread controversy after she claimed divine intervention during a government exam. In her testimony, she celebrated receiving supernatural help during a promotional military exam and even sharing her answers with another candidate.
According to the unnamed woman, an elderly man in white clothing appeared to her during the exam and provided her with answers to difficult questions. She claimed the exam included 50 questions, 40 focused on military career knowledge and 10 on current affairs. Describing the moment, she said, “Brethren, nobody knew this question. So, all I did was to raise the question paper and declare to it: ‘I am a Chosen! I am a chosen!! I am a chosen!!!’”
She further explained that after her declaration, the old man appeared beside her and gave her the answers. Despite suspicions from invigilators, who even removed her apron in an attempt to stop the event, she claimed the man reappeared when she wore her apron again. She went on to say she completed all 10 questions and even helped a fellow candidate copy her answers.
The video of her testimony has drawn mixed reactions, with many expressing shock and concern over her open admission of exam malpractice in a religious setting. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), particularly the Lagos chapter, was quick to respond.
CAN’s Lagos Chairman, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, criticized both the testimony and the church’s decision to allow such a statement to be publicly shared. Adegbite firmly stated, “God doesn’t act that way. I have a Ph.D. Which God of Chosen will appear to you and give you answers to your examination questions? The God of Chosen will give you strength to read your books and go for the exams. There is no shortcut to success in life other than hard work and belief in God.”
He emphasized that the church should vet testimonies before allowing them to be shared publicly. “There are testimonies you don’t allow to be given in the church. And that is why before people give their testimonies, you should invite them and know what they want to talk about.”
Further, Adegbite addressed the growing concern over similar testimonies that have been circulating from members of The Lord’s Chosen church. Other viral testimonies include claims of being saved by a lion from kidnappers and bullets failing to penetrate a church member’s head. Adegbite dismissed these accounts, labeling them as “blatant lies from the pit of hell.”
In defense, Pastor Chidi Louis, the Head of Public Relations and Media for The Lord’s Chosen, argued that testimonies were being misrepresented to harm the church’s reputation. He stated, “There is no need for us to begin to doubt someone’s testimony… They are free to say it as they like,” further adding that the church remains unaffected by criticism from social media.
CAN plans to address these issues at their upcoming meeting, expressing deep concern about what they called “madness going on among Pentecostal pastors.”
