According to the latest updates from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is currently in the lead against his main opponents from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP).
The three top candidates in this hotly contested race are Monday Okpebholo (APC), Asue Ighodalo (PDP), and Olumide Akpata (LP).
So far, INEC has released the results for 16 out of the 18 local government areas (LGAs) in the state. The two remaining LGAs are still being processed, with the collation exercise expected to resume at 5 p.m. today.
From the data released so far, Okpebholo of the APC is holding a significant lead over his rivals.
His performance has been strong in several key local government areas, and his supporters are optimistic that he will maintain his advantage once all the results are in.
