The Nigerian Army has strongly denied rumors suggesting that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has resigned from his position.
In an official statement, the Army’s spokesperson dismissed the reports as false and urged the public to disregard any such claims.
The rumors started when an online report, not from any official or widely-known news source, alleged that Lt Gen Lagbaja had submitted his resignation to President Bola Tinubu.
According to the false report, the resignation supposedly took place just 24 hours after an alleged assassination attempt on Lagbaja’s life.
The online article further claimed that his unexpected resignation had caused chaos within the ranks of the military leadership, suggesting that the situation had led to confusion and uncertainty among senior officers.
However, the Nigerian Army’s spokesperson was quick to clarify that there is no truth to these claims. They firmly denied that Lt Gen Lagbaja had stepped down and emphasized that the report was a fabrication with no basis in fact.
“It is fake news; please disregard it,” he simply said.
The Army’s statement reassured the public that there is no confusion within the military leadership, and operations are continuing as normal under Lagbaja’s command.
