Sanwo-Olu Hosts Edo Governor-Elect, Monday Okpebholo, in Lagos

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu welcomed Senator Monday Okpebholo, the newly elected Governor of Edo State, to the Lagos House in Marina on Saturday. The meeting was a show of appreciation from Okpebholo following his recent victory in the Edo State governorship election.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made the announcement through his official social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter) shortly after the visit. Sharing the news with his followers, he wrote: “Today, I received the Governor-Elect of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, at Lagos House, Marina.”

According to Sanwo-Olu, the two leaders had fruitful discussions about the future of their respective states and possible areas of collaboration. The Governor expressed optimism about the positive outcomes of these discussions, especially regarding Edo State’s development under Okpebholo’s leadership.

“We discussed collaborative efforts that could benefit both Edo and Lagos State. It is clear that Senator Okpebholo has a strong vision for his state and is dedicated to its progress,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu further added that he looks forward to witnessing the positive impact of Okpebholo’s leadership. “I look forward to seeing the positive impact of his leadership in Edo State as he embarks on this new chapter,” he remarked.

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged as the winner of the recent governorship election in Edo State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo victorious after a keenly contested race. He garnered a total of 291,667 votes, securing victory in 11 out of the 18 local government areas in the state.

His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured 247,274 votes and won in 7 local government areas. The close contest between the two candidates highlighted the competitive nature of the election.
