Satellite internet provider, Starlink, has announced a significant increase in its subscription fees for both current and new customers in Nigeria. The company, owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, sent out a message to its users on Tuesday informing them of the new rates and their implementation.
According to the communication from Starlink, the price hike will affect different service packages, including the standard residential plan as well as its mobile roaming options. The company noted that the new pricing will take effect immediately for new customers, while existing customers will see the changes from October 31, 2024.
The standard residential package, which is Starlink’s primary internet service, will now cost ₦75,000 per month, representing a significant increase from its previous price. For customers who use the mobile regional package, also known as “roam unlimited,” the new monthly price will be ₦167,000. This package is designed for users who require internet access across different regions within the country.
For those who need a more comprehensive service, the mobile global package, or “global roam,” which allows users to access the internet across various countries, has seen the steepest price hike. The new price for this plan is set at ₦717,000 per month.
The company stated that this price adjustment is necessary to maintain and improve the quality of its satellite internet services. However, no further explanation was given for the sudden increase in rates.
