Fenerbahce entered this match on the back of a strong start in the tournament, having won their opening game against Union Saint-Gilloise. However, they found it difficult to replicate that success against Twente, who were eager to capitalize on their recent form.

Midway through the second half, Sofyan Amrabat made a brilliant pass that sliced through the Twente defense, allowing Dušan Tadić to calmly lob the oncoming goalkeeper and equalize for Fenerbahce. This goal gave Fenerbahce a much-needed boost and shifted the momentum of the match.
