Bako Bala, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Suru Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State, has been shot dead by gunmen during a kidnapping attempt at his home. The incident, which took place in the early hours of the morning, has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised serious concerns about the ongoing issue of banditry in Nigeria’s northwest region.
Reports indicate that Bako Bala was targeted by gunmen who attempted to abduct him and his family. During the violent encounter, Bala suffered serious gunshot wounds and was quickly transported to the Medical Centre Hospital in Birnin Kebbi for treatment. Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Zaidu Bala, who serves as the special adviser on television and radio to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, confirmed the death of Bako Bala in a heartfelt Facebook post. “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Alhaji Bako Bala has died — APC chairman of Suru local government,” he wrote, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of his colleague and friend. His statement reflects the widespread grief felt by members of the APC and the broader community.
