A powerful explosion rocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Port Harcourt early Saturday morning, causing significant damage to the building and nearby properties. The blast, suspected to have been caused by dynamite, occurred just hours before the scheduled local government elections in Rivers State.
The explosion, which took place along the busy Aba Road, destroyed the entrance gate of the APC office and shattered windows and doors of the building. The impact was so severe that it left debris scattered around the premises. Some nearby properties were also affected by the blast.
This incident marks the second time this year that the APC secretariat, led by Chief Tony Okocha, has been targeted by an explosion. The earlier attack, which also caused damage to the party’s office, has raised concerns about the safety and security of political activities in the state.
The explosion comes at a critical time, as the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission had announced on Friday that all necessary materials for the local government elections had been distributed to polling stations across the state. The timing of the blast has raised speculation that it may be related to the ongoing political tension surrounding the elections.
A video of the aftermath, which has gone viral, shows staff at the APC office inspecting the extent of the damage. The video captures scenes of shattered glass, damaged walls, and workers expressing shock at the incident.
