Missing Speed Darlington in Police Custody, Deji Adeyanju Confirms

The Nigerian musician and social media star, Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, has been reported to be in police custody in Abuja. This was confirmed by prominent Nigerian activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, following concerns over Speed Darlington’s sudden disappearance from public view.

Speed Darlington was reportedly arrested last Friday in Lagos and subsequently transferred to Abuja, where he has remained in detention. Adeyanju, who shared updates on the situation through his social media handle on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, stated that the arrest was tied to a formal complaint from Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy.

Adeyanju’s post read, “We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos Friday last week, moved around and eventually brought to Abuja and has been in detention since then. Petition against him was written by Burna Boy, we can confirm.”

Although Adeyanju confirmed Burna Boy’s involvement in the petition that led to the arrest, he did not disclose further details regarding the specific allegations.

Concerns over Speed Darlington’s whereabouts were first raised by social media influencer Constance Nwogu. On Monday, Nwogu took to her Instagram page to voice her worries, stating that the singer had been unreachable for three days. Nwogu wrote, “It has come to our notice that our man Speeddarlington (Akpi) has been missing for days now (three days now).”

She noted that Speed Darlington, who is typically active on social media, had not posted on his platforms for several days. His last post on YouTube was on October 4, while his Instagram page had not been updated since September 8, a sharp contrast to his frequent online presence.

Nwogu further speculated that his sudden absence might be linked to a controversial video he made in which he questioned Burna Boy’s Grammy award and suggested a connection between Burna Boy and American music mogul Sean Combs (also known as P Diddy).

Adding to the mystery, Burna Boy posted a cryptic message on his X account on Tuesday, simply stating, “Who’s missing?” The timing of the post has raised questions, although it remains unclear whether it was directed at Speed Darlington’s situation.
