Fatima Kyari, the 25-year-old daughter of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has passed away. She died on Friday following a prolonged illness, according to a statement released by the presidency.
Her death has brought deep sorrow to her family and prompted expressions of sympathy from high-ranking officials in the country, including President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Islamic funeral prayers were held for Fatima at the Annur Mosque in Abuja shortly after her passing. She was later laid to rest in accordance with Islamic traditions. Many mourners, including government officials, attended the funeral to offer their prayers and support to the Kyari family during this difficult time.
President Bola Tinubu was among the first to extend his condolences to Mele Kyari and his family.
In an official statement released by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed his deep sympathy, stating, “The president sympathises with Kyari and the rest of the family on the irreparable and painful loss.”
The president also prayed for the peaceful repose of Fatima’s soul and urged the Kyari family to remain strong during these trying moments.
Vice President Kashim Shettima also shared his condolences in a separate statement. Shettima offered prayers for Fatima and asked God to provide the Kyari family with the strength to bear such a tragic loss.
“VP Shettima, who prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Fatima, asked God to grant the family the strength to bear the painful exit of their daughter, who was in her prime.
“The Vice President led other mourners at the funeral prayers, which were held at the Annur Mosque in Abuja,” his spokesperson Stanley Nkwocha wrote in a statement.
