Police Launch Manhunt for Suspected Cultists in Ogun Over APC Candidate’s Murder

The Ogun State Police Command has begun a manhunt for the killers of Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his brutal murder.

Adeyinka was contesting for the position of councillor in Ward 15 of Abeokuta South Local Government Area in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 16.

According to reports, the 40-year-old was attacked in the early hours of Saturday by individuals believed to be cultists. Witnesses say the attackers arrived in an unmarked vehicle, shot him at close range, and then smashed his head with stones to make sure he was dead.

The tragic incident occurred in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, the state capital, where Adeyinka also worked as a member of the transport union.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the murder, stating that the police had already launched an investigation into the case.

Odutola also assured the public that efforts were being made to track down the attackers and bring them to justice. So far, no arrests have been made, but the police are determined to apprehend the suspects, who are currently on the run.

Odutola further mentioned that Adeyinka’s body had been handed over to his grieving family after the police concluded preliminary investigations at the scene. As the community mourns his loss, there is growing tension in Abeokuta, with fears that this murder may be related to ongoing cult activities in the area.
