The management of Urban 94.5 FM, a radio station based in Enugu, has reported that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed their studio, interrupting a live broadcast on Monday, October 14th, 2024.
According to the station’s statement, the raid occurred around 5:45 PM and led to the abduction of on-air presenters and the seizure of communication equipment.
The station’s management expressed concern over the unannounced intrusion by the EFCC. They stated that their presenters were taken away without warning, and vital broadcasting equipment was also confiscated during the raid. This unexpected disruption left the radio station unable to continue its scheduled programs, leaving listeners in shock.
In the official statement from Urban 94.5 FM, the management apologized to their audience for the sudden interruption in programming. They assured their listeners that they are actively working to address the situation and promised to keep the public updated.
The station said, “Whilst we are following up with the matter, we will continue to inform our dear listeners accordingly through this medium.”
The management also acknowledged the chaotic nature of the raid, calling it “unethical.” They expressed their regret for the forced break-in, which led to the disruption of listeners’ favorite programs.
“Once again we apologize for the unethical break-in into our live studio and the disruption of your favorite programs and hope that the matter will be resolved as soon as possible and for whatever the reasons,” the statement added.
