LG Poll: Kogi Restricts Movement on Saturday

The Kogi state government has announced a restriction on vehicular movement this Saturday, October 19, for the local government elections. The restrictions, which will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., are aimed at ensuring a smooth and peaceful voting process across the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

The announcement was made by Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information, in a statement released on Friday in Lokoja. Fanwo explained that the decision was necessary to ensure the security of voters and maintain order during the election. “The decision is also to guarantee the security of voters and citizens across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state,” he said.

Fanwo also emphasized that the state government has instructed security agencies to strictly enforce the restriction order. Law enforcement officers will be positioned throughout the state to ensure compliance, and any individuals found violating the restrictions will face appropriate penalties. The commissioner noted that the measure was in the best interest of the people and was designed to ensure that the election runs without any disruptions.

In his statement, Fanwo encouraged the citizens of Kogi to come out in large numbers to vote for their local government representatives. He reassured voters that adequate security measures had been put in place, so they could participate in the election without fear. “We hereby urge citizens to be peaceful and to make their choices known through the ballot,” he added.

Fanwo also expressed confidence in the ability of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to conduct a free, fair, and transparent election. He called on citizens to exercise their democratic rights responsibly, emphasizing the importance of peaceful elections in promoting the growth and development of the state.
