Following the recent tragic fuel tanker explosion in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, the Kano State Government has pledged N100 million to assist the victims and their families.
The explosion, which occurred earlier in the week, led to devastating loss of life and injuries, shaking the community to its core.
The donation was announced by the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, during his visit to Jigawa on Thursday. He met with Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, at the Government House in Dutse, where he expressed his condolences and offered the financial support as a gesture of solidarity.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of providing aid to both the families who lost loved ones and the survivors who are currently receiving medical treatment.
A statement from Sanusi Tofa, Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, highlighted the intent behind the generous donation. According to the statement, “The donation is meant to support the families of those who lost their loved ones as well as to assist those receiving medical treatment in hospitals.”
This gesture aims to ease the burden on the victims, many of whom are still reeling from the disaster. The explosion, which claimed the lives of over 153 individuals, saw many victims buried in a mass ceremony on Wednesday.
In addition to the fatalities, several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospitals for urgent medical care. The tragedy has left the community mourning and in need of both emotional and financial support.
During the visit, Governor Yusuf extended his heartfelt prayers for the affected families, hoping that such tragic events would not be repeated in the future.
