The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a postponement of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was originally planned for October 24, 2024. The meeting was intended to tackle the ongoing internal issues within the party and to appoint a new acting National Chairman.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also serves as the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, revealed the decision after a stakeholders’ meeting held late Tuesday evening. This meeting was attended by key figures in the party, including Acting National Chairman Iliya Damagum, members of the Party’s Board of Trustees, and the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to Mohammed, the NEC meeting has now been rescheduled for November 28, 2024. He explained that this postponement was necessary to allow the party to focus its efforts on the upcoming Ondo Gubernatorial election, which is scheduled for November 16, 2024. The election is a key event for the PDP, as they aim to win the governorship seat in Ondo State and strengthen their political influence.
The meeting had been highly anticipated as it was expected to address several important issues facing the party. One of the main topics was the leadership transition, including the appointment of a new acting National Chairman, following recent leadership challenges within the PDP.
