The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Jonah Onah, who is believed to be involved in criminal activities in the Olomore area of Abeokuta North Local Government Area. The arrest comes as part of the police’s efforts to curb crime in the region.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest during a phone conversation with PUNCH Online on Thursday. According to Odutola, the arrest was made after the police received reliable information about a criminal hideout in the area. Acting on this tip, a raid was organized by the Lafenwa Division.
“The Divisional Police Officer of the Lafenwa Division successfully apprehended a notorious criminal, Jonah Onah, on October 23, 2024, at 9:50 PM during a raid operation based on reliable intelligence,” Odutola stated. She explained that Onah was arrested in Olomore, an area notorious for criminal activities such as theft and pickpocketing.
During the arrest, the police recovered a decoy gun and a jackknife from the suspect. These items are believed to be tools used by Onah in carrying out his criminal acts. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough, as Onah is suspected to be part of a larger syndicate operating in the area. The police are continuing their investigations to track down other members of this gang.
Odutola added, “Ongoing discreet investigations aim to apprehend other members of this syndicate.”
This is not the first recent success for the Ogun State Police Command in tackling crime. Earlier this month, on October 18, the command arrested 27-year-old Imole Ajayi, who was also accused of armed robbery in the Agbara area of the state.
Ajayi was reportedly part of a one-chance robbery gang that targeted stranded motorists. The police discovered a single-barrel shotgun and three live cartridges in his possession during a stop-and-search operation in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
