The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has corrected its previous report on the helicopter crash that occurred last Thursday over the Atlantic Ocean.
Initial reports from the NSIB stated that five bodies had been recovered from the site of the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter crash.
However, recent statements clarify that only three bodies have been retrieved so far. This helicopter, registered as 5N-BQG and operated by Eastwind Aviation, crashed into the ocean while en route to Port Harcourt.
Capt. Alex Badeh, Director General of the NSIB, initially provided the information on Channels TV, indicating that the search team had successfully recovered five bodies.
However, this was later amended. Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance for the NSIB, issued an update on Sunday, clarifying that only three bodies were recovered at the time of the incident.
Oladeji’s statement addressed the confusion, saying, “Contrary to reports suggesting that five bodies have been recovered, we confirm that only three bodies were retrieved on the day of the incident.”
She explained that while search efforts intensified on October 25, divers located two additional bodies, but strong ocean currents and low visibility made it impossible to retrieve them. Efforts are ongoing to recover these bodies as quickly as possible, with the team dedicated to finding all victims of this tragedy.
