Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun has directed a formal investigation into federal and state judges involved in conflicting rulings concerning ongoing political conflicts in Rivers State.
This action comes as rulings in cases between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his former political mentor, Nyesom Wike, have created widespread confusion and raised concerns about judicial integrity.
On Monday, Justice Kekere-Ekun met with a special panel set up by the National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate these cases. She directed the panel to complete their report this week, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the situation.
This panel, led by a retired Court of Appeal justice and joined by two senior judges, is tasked with examining how and why these contradictory rulings emerged. The goal is to restore public trust in the judicial process, especially in politically sensitive cases.
In addition to this, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court has also been summoned for questioning on Tuesday. He will answer to complaints about the handling of these cases, with the goal of clarifying procedural missteps that may have led to the inconsistent rulings.
Reports suggest that Justice Kekere-Ekun personally ordered this probe to address rising concerns from both legal experts and the general public over perceived judicial partiality.
