Police Probes Suspected Food Poisoning That Killed Five In Edo

Authorities have launched an investigation into the deaths of five young people in Afashio Community, Uzairue, located within the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The deaths, which occurred last week, involve four young men and one young woman who were all found unresponsive in a single room, according to local sources.

Family members reportedly discovered the bodies after realizing the five individuals had not emerged from the room for an extended period. Concerned, they decided to check in on them, only to find them lifeless. Local authorities were promptly notified, and the incident has since drawn attention from both the police and the public.

Details of the victims indicate that two of the deceased were siblings, while the other three were close friends. This close connection among the victims has deepened the sorrow within the community, as friends and family members struggle to understand what led to this tragic outcome.

Early findings from local sources suggest that food poisoning may be a possible cause, as no visible injuries or signs of violence were found on the bodies. However, the actual cause of death remains uncertain pending a detailed investigation.

Speculation around food poisoning has prompted community members to exercise caution with food sources and preparation practices while awaiting official results.

The case has been officially reported to the Jattu Police Division, with Edo State Police Command actively involved in the investigation. Police spokesperson Moses Yamu confirmed the incident, stating, “The Command is aware. An investigation to determine the cause of death is ongoing.”
