President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting initially planned for Wednesday in memory of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who recently passed away. This decision was communicated by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, through an official statement.
The meeting, now rescheduled to a future date, was postponed as a mark of respect for General Lagbaja, who served as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his passing on November 5, 2024. The general’s unexpected death has left a significant impact on both the military and the wider Nigerian community.
In addition to postponing the council meeting, President Tinubu also directed that flags be flown at half-staff across Nigeria for seven days to honor Lagbaja’s service and dedication. Earlier that same day, Tinubu extended his deepest condolences to General Lagbaja’s family and to the entire Nigerian Armed Forces, recognizing the late general’s contributions to national security and stability.
The president expressed his hope for “eternal peace” for General Lagbaja and lauded the general’s commitment to protecting the country throughout his tenure.
