Interim Manchester United manager Ruud van Nistelrooy revealed that he has yet to speak with incoming head coach Ruben Amorim.
Appointed temporarily after the departure of Erik ten Hag last week, Van Nistelrooy has so far led United to a 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the League Cup and a 1-1 Premier League draw with Chelsea.
However, the team has struggled in the Europa League, drawing all three of its group-stage matches. United’s next challenge is against PAOK, the Greek champions, in a crucial European fixture on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Van Nistelrooy addressed questions regarding Amorim, who is set to take charge at Old Trafford on November 11. Asked if he had communicated with the Portuguese coach, Van Nistelrooy replied, “No, I didn’t have contact so far, there are no changes in that.”
He acknowledged the uncertainty about when discussions might take place, noting he is currently focused on managing the team through their upcoming games.
Regarding his future at United, Van Nistelrooy expressed mixed feelings, stating, “It’s difficult to comment on that now, I am waiting for conversations to take place.”
He emphasized his dedication to United’s immediate needs, adding, “There’s one thing that’s the most important for this football club now, which is getting the work done on a daily basis and in the game coming up tomorrow in Europe.”
In other team news, young defender Leny Yoro, who joined United from Lille in July for a potential 70 million euro transfer fee, returned to training for the first time since sustaining a foot injury in pre-season.
Yoro, 18, has been sidelined for three months due to a metatarsal injury that required surgery. Van Nistelrooy expressed optimism for Yoro, calling his return a “big moment” as he gradually rebuilds fitness and prepares for his potential debut.
