JUST IN: Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki Dissolves Cabinet

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has officially dissolved his cabinet in preparation for the handover to the incoming governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, set for November 12. This date will mark the end of Obaseki’s eight-year tenure, which began on November 12, 2016, and the start of a new administration under Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The cabinet dissolution was announced on Friday following a valedictory session at the Government House in Benin City. During the event, Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo moved the motion to dissolve the State Executive Council for the 2020–2024 period, which was promptly seconded by Osilama Okuofu, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

Governor Obaseki expressed gratitude to his cabinet members, acknowledging their dedication and contributions toward advancing the state. He thanked them for supporting his administration’s vision to “make Edo great again.” He also extended his appreciation to the people of Edo for their ongoing support, prayers, and cooperation over the years.

In turn, cabinet members took time to reflect on their experiences and express admiration for Obaseki’s leadership. They highlighted his achievements across various sectors, crediting him with numerous initiatives that, they said, positively impacted the state.

As part of the farewell ceremony, departing commissioners and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) presented awards and gifts to Obaseki as tokens of their appreciation. The evening concluded with a dinner honoring Obaseki, rounding off the day with heartfelt tributes and celebrations.
