President Bola Tinubu has urged leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State to work together to reclaim the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the first annual lecture honoring the late former governor Lam Adesina, held in Ibadan, Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among APC members.
Represented at the event by the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, Tinubu described Oyo as a key state in Nigeria’s political landscape. “Adesina stood for high democratic ideals that underpin the democratic system of government. Ideals are essential for ensuring that power is held by the people, either directly or through elected representatives.
“Ideals of effective participation in governance with citizens making their views known on policy decisions. Consequently, to honour his memory, the progressives in the state must come together as one. You all must fight the fight and win the battle… Come 2027, the state must return to the progressive fold,” Tinubu insisted.
The lecture, titled “Improving Nigeria’s Governance: Lessons From the Past, Strategies for the Future,” brought together notable figures in the APC and other dignitaries.
The late Lam Adesina, who served as governor from 1999 to 2003, was celebrated as a strong advocate for democracy and good governance. Tinubu recalled Adesina’s contributions to Nigerian democracy, saying he was a courageous leader who stood for the principles of service to humanity and integrity in governance. Tinubu urged the APC in Oyo to honor Adesina’s legacy by “coming together as one” to achieve victory in 2027.
The event also featured a lecture from Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who was represented by Senator Shuaib Salisu. Bamidele highlighted the need to revive Nigeria’s core values to promote a more disciplined, responsible, and honest society. He encouraged citizens to reject indiscipline and corruption, which he described as detrimental to the nation’s progress.
