Governor Monday Okpebholo, in his inaugural address as the sixth elected Governor of Edo State, made a solemn promise to the people, pledging not to betray the trust they placed in him when they elected him to lead the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, Okpebholo assured the citizens of his unwavering commitment to their welfare, emphasizing that his administration’s “Five-Point Agenda” would focus on driving economic growth and improving the lives of Edo people.
The governor’s agenda includes key areas of focus:
- Security – Ensuring the safety of all citizens.
- Infrastructure and Road Development – Building and maintaining critical infrastructure.
- Affordable Healthcare – Improving access to healthcare services for all.
- Water and Food Sufficiency – Ensuring sustainable water resources and food security.
- Value-Driven Education – Enhancing the quality of education across the state.
Okpebholo, who previously served as the senator for Edo Central, was elected as governor on September 21, 2024, under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He triumphed over 16 other candidates, including his main opponent, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The new governor, along with his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, was sworn into office in a ceremony attended by state officials and citizens. Idahosa, a former lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency, will work alongside Okpebholo in shaping the future of Edo State.
