A local prophetess in Ondo whose name is Folashade Adekola, has been arrested following the death of a woman, Jumoke Adesuwa, and her newborn child. The incident occurred at Adekola’s church in the Oke-Aro area of the state capital, where Adesuwa sought assistance for her childbirth.
According to sources, Adesuwa went into labor at the church but soon developed severe complications. After giving birth, she began to bleed heavily, while her newborn reportedly passed away shortly after birth. The situation became critical, and her family was notified.
Adesuwa’s husband, accompanied by another family member, rushed to the church after receiving the news. On arrival, they found Adesuwa in a highly critical condition, lying in a pool of blood, while the newborn had already passed away.
Family members quickly transported her to nearby hospitals, but she was reportedly turned away by three facilities due to her severe bleeding. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries as medical staff at the last hospital made efforts to save her life.
After her death, the family returned to the church to retrieve the newborn’s body. They reportedly found the infant’s remains kept in a room that was unsuitable for childbirth. Concerned over the conditions and the tragic outcome, Adesuwa’s brother filed a report with the police, leading to Adekola’s arrest.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the prophetess’s arrest, noting that she had been detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further questioning.
“The case was reported by the deceased’s brother who informed us that his sister died after childbirth in the church. The prophetess is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Odunlami stated.
“When we arrived, we were told the baby had died during delivery, but the mother was alive.
“However, we found her lying in a pool of her blood, bleeding profusely. We immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital,” the family source recounted.
He continued, “She was rejected by three hospitals due to her severe condition, and tragically, she passed away as the last hospital attempted to revive her.
“When we returned to the church to retrieve the baby’s remains, we found the newborn’s body in a room that was clearly unfit for delivery.”
