The Kwara State Government has lifted its earlier restrictions on specific vehicles traveling through Ahmadu Bello Way, a major route leading to the Government House in Ilorin. This change, announced on Wednesday, now allows shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles to operate on the road, which houses critical government buildings and security offices.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Olajide Abolarin. Olododo emphasized that this update aims to improve public understanding of the vehicle restrictions in place on Ahmadu Bello Way. “This clarification is necessary for public awareness,” he said.
However, the Commissioner stressed that other types of vehicles, including tricycles (often called Keke Napep), motorcycles (Okada), and large trucks, remain prohibited on this road due to safety and security concerns. This decision, according to Olododo, helps to maintain order and ensures smooth movement in an area close to sensitive government installations.
Last week, the state had imposed a broad restriction on vehicles on Ahmadu Bello Way, assigning the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) to enforce the new rules. Fines of up to N50,000 were announced for any violations.
