Renowned Nigerian gospel filmmaker Mike Bamiloye has paid a heartfelt tribute to Moses Korede Are, popularly known as “Baba Gbenro,” following the actor’s passing. The late actor was widely recognized for his impactful roles in gospel dramas, particularly his character in Abattoir.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Bamiloye, founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, shared the details of his final conversation with Baba Gbenro before the actor was hospitalized. Bamiloye recounted, “When he was being taken to the hospital and we were talking on the phone, he said: ‘Please, greet my friend for me. Please, Daddy, I will be well. Don’t let this discourage you from calling me on film location o.’”
Reflecting on Baba Gbenro’s unwavering commitment to gospel drama, Bamiloye noted that the actor was actively working on Abejoye Season 8 and Abattoir 5 before his health deteriorated. “We were on the location of Abejoye season 8. We did not know he was rounding off his assignment in the vineyard,” he shared.
Bamiloye emphasized the unpredictability of life, urging others to consider their readiness for eternity. “The lesson for us all is: When will the Master call you to come home and say: IT IS CLOSING TIME?”
Describing the actor’s passing as a “gain for Heaven,” Bamiloye celebrated his friend’s transition. “He died here and woke up there eternally. He is resting from movie shoots and learning of many lines.”
The death of Korede Are, who left a lasting legacy through his roles, was first announced by fellow actor Oluwaseun Adejumobi on Instagram. Baba Gbenro is fondly remembered as a dedicated servant of God whose contributions to gospel drama remain timeless.
