The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, participated in the ongoing local government elections on Saturday, casting his vote at Polling Unit 002, Ita Osanyin, Iperu Ward 3 in Ikenne Local Government Area. The voting process began for the governor around 11:24 am.
After voting, Abiodun spoke with journalists, commending the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for their dedication to conducting a smooth and transparent election.
According to him, despite minor logistical challenges, the distribution of election materials to all parts of the state had been completed, ensuring the timely start of voting.
“Let me first appreciate the OGSIEC for their level of preparedness and diligence to conduct free, fair, and credible polls,” he said, acknowledging the efforts made to address early setbacks.
The governor also expressed satisfaction with the turnout of voters across the state, viewing it as a sign of public trust in the electoral process. He emphasized that the exercise reflected the electorate’s belief that their votes would count in shaping the future of their local councils.
Abiodun further urged media professionals to report accurately and responsibly, cautioning against the spread of misleading information that could confuse the public.
In addition, he thanked security agencies for maintaining order throughout the state, noting that the election had been largely peaceful. He described the cooperation of all stakeholders as key to the success of the day’s events.
