The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has successfully uploaded 94.13% of results from the Ondo State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), as of 7:56 pm on Saturday. Out of the 3,933 polling units where voting occurred, results from 3,702 units are now available online.
The election saw 18 political parties competing for the governorship seat, but the spotlight was largely on the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Both candidates share a unique history as former deputy governors under the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. After Akeredolu’s passing last year, Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as governor, giving him an advantage of incumbency in this race.
Voting commenced at 8 am across the state’s 3,933 polling units, with election materials reaching some areas as early as 6 am. Reports from the field indicate that the process was generally peaceful. Voting ended by 2:30 pm in most areas, allowing officials to begin sorting and counting ballots promptly.
