Lucky Aiyedatiwa Breaks Silence After Winning Ondo Governorship Election

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has expressed gratitude to the people of the state following his victory in the just-concluded governorship election.

The governor, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), was officially declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after securing the majority of votes in Saturday’s polls.

Speaking to journalists in Akure, the state capital, Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked the citizens for their renewed trust in his leadership. He stated, “I thank Ondo for the renewed mandate given to me to be their gov beyond 2025 and I promise to serve them.”

The election was a competitive race, with Aiyedatiwa facing strong opponents, including Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorunfemi Festus of the Labour Party (LP), and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), among others.

Despite the challenges, Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious with a total of 366,781 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Ajayi Agboola, who garnered 117,845 votes. The Labour Party candidate secured 1,162 votes.

INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, announced the results. He confirmed that Aiyedatiwa had fulfilled all requirements to be declared the winner.
