The Federal Government has removed Ohieku Salami, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, citing “actions unbecoming of his office and violations of established procedures.”
According to a statement released by Folashade Boriowo, the Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, Salami’s removal came after a series of troubling actions. One of the major issues highlighted was his decision to suspend the university’s Vice-Chancellor without following the proper protocols required for such a significant step.
The statement also revealed that despite several interventions by the Ministry of Education, Salami refused to reverse the suspension. Instead, he allegedly exhibited inappropriate behavior, including the use of abusive language and issuing threats against ministry officials. These actions reportedly targeted high-ranking officials such as the ministry’s directors and the Permanent Secretary.
The Federal Government emphasized that Salami’s actions undermined the authority of the ministry and violated the rules guiding university administration. This decision is expected to restore order and ensure adherence to proper governance processes at the institution.
