Abductors of three members of the Deeper Life Bible Church in Ondo State have reportedly asked for a ransom of 15 million naira for their release. The victims were taken on Monday evening while returning from a Bible study session in the Kasemola area of the Ogbese community, Akure North Local Government Area.
A family member close to the situation told newsmen that the kidnappers have made contact with both the families of the victims and church leaders. The kidnappers are demanding five million naira for each person.
“Yes, they have contacted us and have demanded for a ransom of N5 million per victim,” the source said. “We are raising money from well-wishers and church members to be able to pay the ransom.”
Church officials have also called on prayer groups to support efforts for the safe return of the kidnapped members. A church insider confirmed that the incident has been reported to both the police and the state’s Amotekun security group.
“We have reported the incident to the police and Amotekun Corps in the state,” the source added.
The police spokesperson for Ondo State, Ayanlade Olayinka, verified the kidnapping incident but did not specify the exact number of victims. He said that police detectives are currently searching the nearby forest areas to find and rescue the kidnapped church members.
“I can confirm to you that there is an issue of kidnapping but I cannot confirm the number of the victims for now,” Olayinka said.
He noted that law enforcement officers are actively working to arrest the kidnappers and restore peace in the area.
