Abuja School Explosion Case of National, International Attention – Police

The Nigeria Police Force announced on Tuesday that significant progress has been made in investigating the explosion that occurred at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council, Abuja.

The incident, which happened on Monday around 11 a.m., resulted in the tragic deaths of two people and left two others injured.

Authorities suspect an improvised explosive device (IED) caused the blast. Preliminary investigations suggest that three men who had earlier visited the school proprietor may have brought the explosive device.

In response, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command arrested the school proprietor, Adamu Ashimu, for questioning.

During a press briefing in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that the police are making steady progress in uncovering the cause of the explosion. While declining to provide detailed information, he emphasized the importance of completing the investigation thoroughly.

“We have some clues to what actually happened. This is not the right time for us to say much about the incident because we don’t want to be judgmental. Let them finish their investigation,” he said.

Adejobi described the explosion as an unusual and isolated incident but assured the public that the case is being treated with the utmost seriousness due to its national and international implications.

He urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), especially those in suburban areas, to remain vigilant and actively cooperate with local security agencies. Adejobi stressed the importance of collective efforts to prevent future occurrences.

He added, “We want to seize the opportunity to talk to Nigerians, particularly residents of the Federal Capital Territory, to be more vigilant. This is an indication that we need to work together, to collaborate, and to make sure we don’t give any gap for any other incidents to be recorded in the Federal Capital Territory.

“We need to be more vigilant. You can see that this didn’t happen in the suburbs. It’s not in the main city, we need to be more vigilant and work with your local security operatives and other security agencies around you. We must work together.”
