The All Progressives Congress (APC) has pushed back against allegations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which claimed that President Bola Tinubu is using government influence to manipulate opposition parties.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, addressed the accusations, calling them baseless and lacking evidence.
The APC noted that the ADC had accused the federal government of plotting to destabilise the party by calling some of its northern chairmen to a secret meeting.
According to the ADC, it received what it described as “credible intelligence” indicating that chairmen from the North East and North West were invited to a private session with government officials to pressure and intimidate them into acting against their party’s interest.
But Morka stated that the entire allegation was built on assumptions with no real proof. “Beyond the rash of poorly imagined accusations, the statement did not offer substantiation of any kind.
It’s vague reference to ‘officials of federal government’ only belies the mischievous intent of its makers to whip up sentiments, manipulate public opinion, and distract Nigerians from the patent hopelessness of their political phishing expedition,” the statement read.
The APC insisted that the so-called meeting never happened. “Clearly, there was no such meeting, and certainly, no one could have been coerced or intimidated at a meeting that never was. This could have happened only in the warped imagination of masters of deception and marauding invaders of the ADC.”
The ruling party also pointed out that the ADC was going through internal problems caused by its own members. “There is no reason for Mr. President or APC to expend valuable time and energy trying to sow confusion within ADC that is already mortally wounded by confusion delivered by its invaders,” the statement said.
Morka further noted that the ADC’s leadership crisis had nothing to do with the APC or President Tinubu. “The ADC needs no help from our great Party to unravel as it must from its own internal dissonance, contradictions and discord of self-serving and vainglorious personalities that executed a gestapo-like takeover of the party to the chagrin of bonafide leaders and members of the party,” he said.
Despite the political drama, Morka assured that President Tinubu and the APC are focused on moving the country forward. “While the opposition wallows in self-inflicted confusion, the Tinubu-administration and our great Party remain undistracted and will continue to build a virile and vibrant country for this and future generations of Nigerians.”
