Adeleke, Oyetola Mourn As Ilesa Monarch Joins Ancestors

The community of Ijesaland is in mourning following the death of the revered Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, who passed away after a brief illness.

The news was confirmed by Chief Olayinka Fasuyi, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland. Oba Aromolaran, a respected leader who served for 42 years, was known for his dedication to the development of Ijesaland and Osun State.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former governor of Osun State, have both expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s passing.

Governor Adeleke described Oba Aromolaran as a selfless leader who prioritized the welfare of his people and supported good governance.

Reflecting on their last meeting, Governor Adeleke said, “The last time I was with him was the flag off of the dualisation of Brewery-Palace road. I am glad our late erudite scholar witnessed a new phase of development for Ijeshaland.”

Adegboyega Oyetola, in a statement by his spokesperson Ismail Omipidan, praised the late monarch as an exemplary figure of royalty and integrity. He noted that Oba Aromolaran’s reign brought significant progress to Ijesaland and beyond.

Oyetola expressed his condolences to the monarch’s family and the people of Ijesaland, stating, “We shall forever remember him for his valour, commitment and love for humanity.”

In response to the monarch’s death, the Owa-in-Council has declared a seven-day curfew and mourning period across Ijesaland. Announced by Oba Oyegbade Oyeleye, the Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa, the curfew will run daily from 10 pm to 6 am.

Additionally, all markets in Ijesaland, including areas such as Ilesa West, East, Atakumosa East, West, Oriade, and Obokun Local Government Areas, will be closed for three days to honor the late king.
