The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has distanced itself from a recent statement circulating in the media, which was presented as the organisation’s assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s government. According to the group, the controversial report, which criticised the Federal Government, did not come from its leadership.
This clarification was made public through a statement issued on Thursday by Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi. The statement was released in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Ajayi made it clear that Afenifere had no hand in the so-called mid-term review of President Tinubu’s administration. “The said report was not issued by it and should be disregarded by members of the public,” the group said, urging Nigerians not to be misled by misinformation.
He noted that Afenifere acknowledges the difficulties facing many Nigerians today, especially in areas like food prices, transportation, and security. However, he also noted that the current government is making efforts to deal with these issues.
“We also understand that steps are being taken by the government to tackle these challenges with a view not only to bringing relief to suffering Nigerians but also to putting in place frameworks that will guarantee a sound future for the country and the people,” the group stated.
Ajayi further mentioned that Afenifere will continue to provide useful suggestions to the government through appropriate means. The organisation believes that through ongoing cooperation, the government can achieve better outcomes for the people.
Looking ahead, Afenifere expressed hope that the government’s third year in office will bring more progress. The group is optimistic that the high costs of basic goods and transport will be reduced, and that safety across the nation will improve—especially if the plan for state police is implemented quickly.
