Spanish football star Aitana Bonmati has been crowned the FIFA Best Women’s Player for the second year in a row, solidifying her position as one of the finest athletes in women’s football. The award adds to her growing collection of accolades, which already includes two Ballon d’Or trophies.
Speaking via video link from Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium, Bonmati shared her gratitude, saying, “I’m grateful, I’m proud to receive this award.” Her words reflect the hard work and dedication she put into an extraordinary season.
In the 2023/24 season, Bonmati led her club, FC Barcelona, to an incredible achievement—a rare continental quadruple. This included winning the Spanish league (La Liga F), the Copa de la Reina, the Supercopa de España, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Not only did she win every possible title in club football, but she also helped her national team secure the Nations League trophy.
A standout moment of the season came during the Champions League final, where Bonmati scored a goal and delivered a player-of-the-match performance. Her efforts powered Barcelona to a 2-0 victory over Lyon, securing their third Champions League title in just four years.
In the men’s category, Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho claimed the Puskas Award for the best goal, thanks to his stunning bicycle kick against Everton in the Premier League.
