Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, recently received a generous donation of N1.5 billion from elder statesman and renowned businessman, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.
The donation was made to support victims affected by the devastating floods that have recently hit the region.
Dantata, who is 96 years old, traveled to Maiduguri from Kano with a delegation to personally hand over the contribution to the Borno State Government at the Government House in Maiduguri.
During his visit, Dantata expressed his deep sympathy to the people of Maiduguri, especially those who lost loved ones in the flooding. He also spoke directly to the state governor, Babagana Zulum, offering words of comfort and support.
Dantata took the opportunity to reflect on the country’s current economic challenges, expressing concern about the state of affairs in Nigeria. He urged political leaders and the elite to act with honesty and fear of Allah in their decisions and leadership.
This visit and donation come shortly after Dantata’s nephew, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who is also Africa’s richest man, made his own contribution of N1 billion to help the same flood victims. Both donations highlight the significant impact of the disaster and the urgent need for assistance.
Dantata also used the occasion to pray for the peace and unity of Borno State and Nigeria as a whole, recognizing the broader need for stability and harmony in the nation. His visit was seen as a gesture of compassion and solidarity, especially considering his advanced age.
In response to Dantata’s kind donation, Governor Babagana Zulum expressed his gratitude, calling the visit a major source of hope for the people of Borno during this difficult time.
He praised Dantata’s generosity, saying, “The people of Borno deeply appreciate this show of humanity by a 96-year-old to visit us. Let me say it, Our Baba has donated the sum of N1.5 billion to support the flood victims. May Allah bless and reward you with Aljannah. Mu gode, Baba.”
The donation is expected to help provide relief to the numerous families affected by the floods, offering some much-needed support in rebuilding their lives.
