Gov. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has approved the appointment of Prof. Msughter Amua as the first Vice Chancellor of the newly created Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, located in Ihugh.
This announcement came through a statement shared with journalists in Makurdi on Saturday. The statement was signed by Mr. Tersoo Kula, who serves as the Chief Press Secretary to the governor. According to Kula, Governor Alia also gave the green light for eight other individuals to take up important roles in various state institutions.
Mr. Kula noted that Dr. Johnson Echor will now serve as the Registrar of the new university, while Mr. James Ormye has been named Bursar. Dr. Demekaa Umbur will take the position of Librarian. These appointments form the foundation of the academic and administrative leadership of the new institution.
Additionally, the governor approved the appointments of two new provosts for existing state colleges of education. Prof. Boniface Ode has been appointed as the Provost of the College of Education in Oju, and Dr. Tyodoo Iyue will take on the same role at the College of Education in Katsina-Ala.
Mr. Joseph Kwaghgba has been chosen as the new acting Chairman of the Benue Internal Revenue Service. Also, Mr. Anta Igbaato is now the acting General Manager of the Benue State Sanitation Authority. Mr. Bem Tseem will serve as the acting Executive Secretary of the Teaching Service Board.
“All the appointments are to begin officially on July 7,” Kula noted.
The governor has congratulated the appointees and urged them to work with honesty and dedication in line with the broader goals of the current administration. “This development is in furtherance of the governor’s commitment to repositioning all institutions of government for optimal service delivery, efficiency and accountability,” the statement added.
The appointees, according to the statement, were chosen because of their strong history of good performance, commitment, and trustworthiness. The statement also noted that some officials currently serving in acting positions will return to the state civil service for new duties.
“The present acting Executive Secretary, Teaching Service Board, and the acting chairman, Benue Internal Revenue Services, are both directed to report back to the Head of Service, for reassignment of other responsibilities. The acting General Manager, BENSESA, is to report back to the governor’s office,” it added.
