Allegations Arise Over APC’s Alleged Attempt to Hijack Hunger Protests in Edo State

A civic group, Edolites For Peace and Progress, has raised concerns over an alleged plan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate ongoing hunger protests in Edo State for political advantage. This claim was made public by the group’s leader, Madam Adesua Odigie, who accused the APC of exploiting the protests to undermine the current government led by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement released today, Madam Odigie voiced her worries about the intentions of the APC. According to her, the party is attempting to use the genuine grievances of the protesters to create political instability and to discredit the PDP administration.

“It has come to our attention that the APC is actively trying to co-opt and manipulate the legitimate grievances of the protesters,” said Odigie. She described the alleged actions of the APC as a strategic maneuver intended to cause chaos and shift blame to the current government.

The Edolites For Peace and Progress highlighted their concerns that the APC’s interference was meant to divert attention from the real issues of poverty and hunger, thereby inciting unrest among the populace.

“The APC’s interference is aimed at fostering an environment of confusion and laying the blame for current economic difficulties on the PDP administration,” read part of the group’s statement. The group condemned such tactics as deeply unethical and counterproductive to the efforts of alleviating the people’s suffering.

The group called on the APC to halt their alleged manipulative actions and instead, engage in constructive dialogue. “We urge the APC to stop using the hardships faced by the people of Edo as a political weapon. Instead, they should focus on meaningful solutions and collaborate towards alleviating the economic challenges in our state,” the group stated.

Additionally, Edolites For Peace and Progress expressed their support for the initiatives undertaken by the PDP-led government to address the state’s issues and appealed for unity among the residents of Edo State. “In these challenging times, it is vital for all stakeholders to unite and work together for the betterment of Edo State. We must remain vigilant against attempts to derail our progress and concentrate on building a prosperous future for all.”
